Le layering en skincare : ta routine matin et soir

Do you dream of soft, hydrated, glowing skin without blemishes or tightness? The secret is layering: a multi-step beauty ritual that respects every skin type, whether your skin is dry, oily, combination, or sensitive. Discover how to build your morning and evening routine to maximize the effectiveness of each product.

Why adopt layering in your beauty routine?

Layering is the art of applying your facial skincare products in successive layers, in a precise order, to optimize the absorption of active ingredients and protect the skin barrier. Unlike often overly generic 3-in-1 products, this method allows you to target each concern: hydration, a brighter complexion, reduced blemishes, anti-aging, and more. The result: purified, hydrated, soothed skin with a refined texture, whatever your skin type.

Evening routine

In the evening, your skin needs to get rid of accumulated impurities, sebum, makeup residue, and pollution. Here are the key steps:

    1. Double cleansing

Start by removing your makeup with a cleansing oil, micellar water, or cleansing milk, depending on your skin type. This step dissolves makeup, sebum, and impurities without irritating the epidermis. Follow with a cleansing gel or gentle cleansing foam to complete the cleansing process and leave your skin clean and fresh.

    2. Exfoliation

On clean skin, apply a chemical exfoliant (glycolic acid, lactic acid, or an enzymatic exfoliant) to remove dead skin cells, refine enlarged pores, and boost cell turnover. Adjust the frequency according to the season and your skin’s sensitivity to avoid irritation. Use it 2 to 3 times a week in winter if your complexion looks dull, and twice a week in summer.

    3. Hydrating essence or mist (optional)

For a refreshing boost and extra hydration, mist on a facial spray or apply an essence. You can even make your own at home with distilled water, rose water, and vegetable glycerin.

    4. Special treatments (prescribed by a dermatologist)

If you use specific treatments (acne creams, retinoids, etc.), apply them at this step. These products target specific concerns: acne, dark spots, rosacea, deep wrinkles… Always follow your dermatologist’s recommendations to protect your skin barrier.

    5. Serums

Then apply your serums: choose them according to your needs (hydration with hyaluronic acid, a radiant complexion with vitamin C, anti-aging, blemish control, enlarged pores…). Limit yourself to a maximum of 2 or 3 serums, starting with the lightest texture.

    6. Eye contour

Use an eye cream enriched with caffeine, peptides, or hyaluronic acid to reduce dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness. The skin around the eyes is thin and needs specific care.

    7. Moisturizing cream

Finish with a moisturizer suited to your skin type: lightweight for oily or combination skin, and richer for dry or mature skin. This step nourishes, repairs, and protects the skin barrier against external aggressors.

    8. Plant oil (optional)

In winter, or if your skin feels tight, add a few drops of plant oil (sweet almond, argan, jojoba, apricot, or shea) to boost hydration.

    Morning routine: protect and brighten

In the morning, the goal is to awaken the skin, provide hydration and protection, while preserving its natural radiance.

    1. Gentle rinse

There’s no need for harsh cleansing: simply rinsing with water or using thermal water is enough to remove excess sebum. If you have acne-prone skin, try reducing cleansing to a few times a week.

    2. Targeted serum

Apply a serum suited to your needs: vitamin C for radiance, hyaluronic acid for hydration, and niacinamide to even out skin texture and tighten pores.

    3. Moisturizing cream

Choose a lightweight day cream enriched with moisturizing and soothing active ingredients that leaves skin soft, supple, and protected against dehydration and external aggressors.

    4. Sun protection

Essential, even on cloudy days: apply a sunscreen suited to your skin type to help prevent skin aging and dark spots while preserving your skin’s elasticity. If possible, reapply during the day for optimal protection.

Tips for successful layering and beautiful skin

    • Tailor each product to your skin type: moisturizing for dry skin, mattifying for oily skin, soothing for sensitive skin, and purifying for blemish-prone skin.

    • Choose cosmetics without controversial ingredients, rich in natural and moisturizing ingredients.

    • Listen to your skin: if it feels tight, becomes red, or shows signs of irritation, space out exfoliation and favor soothing products.

    • Don’t forget your neck and décolleté in your routine: they also deserve hydration and protection!
