Skincare layering: your morning and evening routine

Dreaming of soft, hydrated, glowing skin with no blemishes or tightness? The secret is layering! It's a multi-step beauty ritual that works for every skin type – whether yours is dry, oily, combination, or sensitive. Find out how to build your perfect morning and evening routine to get the most out of each product.

Why should you try layering in your skincare routine?

Layering is all about applying your face products one after another, in a specific order. This helps your skin soak up all the good stuff (active ingredients) and keeps your skin barrier strong. Unlike those general 3-in-1 products, layering lets you focus on exactly what your skin needs – whether it's hydration, a brighter complexion, fewer blemishes, or anti-aging benefits. The result? Clean, hydrated, calm skin with a smoother texture, no matter your skin type!

Evening routine

In the evening, your skin needs to get rid of all the impurities, oil, makeup, and pollution that built up during the day. Here are the key steps:

    1. Double cleansing

First, take off your makeup with a cleansing oil, micellar water, or cleansing milk – pick what works best for your skin type. This step melts away makeup, oil, and impurities without being harsh on your skin. Then, follow up with a gentle cleansing gel or foam to finish cleaning and leave your skin feeling fresh and super clean.

    2. Exfoliation

On clean skin, use a chemical exfoliant (like glycolic, lactic, or enzymatic acid) to get rid of dead skin cells, minimize enlarged pores, and boost your skin's renewal. Adjust how often you use it based on the season and how sensitive your skin is, to avoid any irritation. For example, use it 2 to 3 times a week in winter if your skin looks a bit dull, and twice a week in summer.

    3. Essence or hydrating mist (optional)

For a little refresh and extra hydration, spray a mist or an essence. You can even make your own at home with distilled water, rose water, and vegetable glycerin.

    4. Special Treatments (prescribed by a dermatologist)

If you use specific treatments (anti-acne creams, retinoids, etc.), this is the place to apply them. These treatments target specific problems: acne, spots, rosacea, deep wrinkles... Always follow your dermatologist's recommendations to protect your skin barrier.

    5. Serums

Then apply your serums: choose them according to your needs (moisturizing with hyaluronic acid, complexion radiance with vitamin C, anti-aging, anti-imperfections, dilated pores...). Limit yourself to 2 or 3 serums maximum, starting with the lightest texture.

    6. Eye Cream

Use an eye cream enriched with caffeine, peptides, or hyaluronic acid to reduce dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness. The skin around your eyes is delicate, so it needs specific care.

    7. Moisturizer

Finish with a moisturizer that suits your skin type: a lighter one for oily or combination skin, and a richer one for dry or mature skin. This step nourishes, repairs, and protects your skin's barrier from external aggressors.

    8. Face Oil (optional)

In winter, or if your skin feels tight, add a few drops of face oil (like sweet almond, argan, jojoba, apricot, or shea) to boost hydration.

    Morning Routine: Protect and Brighten

In the morning, the goal is to wake up your skin, provide hydration and protection, all while keeping its natural glow.

    1. Gentle Rinse

No need for harsh cleansing: a simple rinse with water or thermal water is enough to remove excess sebum. If you have acne-prone skin, try to cleanse only a few times a week.

    2. Targeted Serum

Apply a serum that fits your needs: Vitamin C for radiance, hyaluronic acid for hydration, or niacinamide to even out skin tone and tighten pores.

    3. Moisturizer

Choose a light day cream, enriched with hydrating and soothing ingredients that leave your skin soft, supple, and protected from dehydration and external aggressors.

    4. Sun Protection

It's essential, even on cloudy days: apply a sunscreen suited to your skin type to prevent skin aging, dark spots, and maintain your skin's elasticity. If possible, reapply throughout the day for optimal protection.

Tips for Successful Layering and Beautiful Skin

    • Tailor each product to your skin type: hydrating for dry skin, mattifying for oily skin, soothing for sensitive skin, and purifying for blemish-prone skin.

    • Opt for cosmetics without controversial ingredients, rich in natural and hydrating components.

    • Listen to your skin: if it feels tight, red, or irritated, reduce exfoliation and opt for soothing treatments.

    • Don't forget your neck and décolletage in your routine: they deserve hydration and protection too!
